We're in the planning stages for our hallway guest bathroom makeover. This is the bathroom we currently use the most, because the master bathroom has a tiny shower and doesn't smell that great. The hallway bathroom, however, has a good-sized shower and tub and it smells just fine! Thus far, we have changed out:
a. the curtain rod -- for a new, curved, Moen shower rod in the brushed nickel color
b. the old shower curtain -- for a Bed, Bath, and Beyond clear curtain
c. the shower head -- we don't love the new shower head, so we're still shopping around.
Now, we are in full bathroom makeover planning stages. This makeover shouldn't be incredibly time consuming, but it will involve a lot of small changes, so planning is key.
First, we thought about what we want to do to the bathroom. Here's our list thus far:
1. Buy a new toilet paper holder and curtain rods, preferably matching
2. Move the toilet paper holder that sits across from the toilet to the side of the vanity for easier access
3. Change the shower head
4. Install a water filter on the shower head to get softer water (better for your hair and scalp)
5. Use a pressure gauge to improve the water pressure -- so key for a great shower!
6. Take down the old, 1970s, hippy flower wallpaper (which is very cute in general but not so cute in our guest bathroom)
7. Sand the walls and prep them for paint
8. Paint the walls a soft blue color.
9. Install a shelf over the toilet so that guests have some space to put a toiletry bag.
As you can see, there is a lot to do!
Paint Color
The first thing I did when thinking about paint color was to consult Pinterest. (I may or may not be spending hours on the website every day looking at home decor boards.) I searched for bathrooms and pinned to a bathroom board a bunch of pictures with paint colors I liked as well as decor and organization ideas.
Once I pinned more than 150 pins -- yes, I get carried away with all the amazing-ness that is Pinterest -- I went back and looked at the wall colors to see which ones I liked.
Next, I chose my two favorite colors for this bathroom: light blue and light grey. I showed a few pictures to my hubby handyman, who liked the light blue as well, and voila: a paint color decision has been made! (Albeit a very general decision, since we still have to pick the specific light blue paint.)
You can see the two pictures that are serving as my inspiration here and here.
The bathroom in the first picture is from the 12 Oaks Blog bathroom reveal and more details can be seen here. The blue is Benjamin Moore Palladian Blue.
The second bathroom was a renovation from The Lettered Cottage, and the blue color is Benjamin Moore Wedgewood Gray.
We ordered a bunch of tools off Amazon, so we'll be starting our renovation soon. The planning stage is important, so you know how much time you need to set aside for the project and when you think you can accomplish it all. I don't want to think I can get the bathroom completed this weekend, only to realize that this will take 4 weekends and be disappointed.
I'll post more on this when we're in the middle of the bathroom makeover!
