Fix It Items

My handyman hubby and I have made some mental lists of what we'd like to change in our first house, and it's time to right some of these Fix It items down.  That way, I can delight in crossing items off the list!  It's true, I love lists, and organizing things calms me.  In the jumble of boxes everywhere and so many things to do, making a list and crossing things off sounds like a great idea!  I decided to start with short-term projects.  Projects we'll tackle later will have to wait for another list.  This one is long enough.  Here goes....

Entryway

__Rip up the ugly floor tile and put down new floor (possibly ourselves)
__Paint the trim (currently an unappealing, buttercream color)

Outside the House  DONE! (for now)

X  Trim the hedges so we can walk in and out of the house without brushing them
X  Change the light bulb above the front door
X  Rewire the lights so the outdoor light is on a timer
X  Spray the hedges with the hose to clean out the zillion webs and bugs hanging out just outside the house
X  Put a new piece on the door so it closes quietly and will stay open

Hallway Bathroom on Main Floor

__Change the light fixture
__Put up a towel rod and towel

Dining Room

__Take down the 1970s wallpaper that covers the top half of the walls
__Paint where there used to be wallpaper
__Paint the trim white
__Refurbish the light fixture hanging from the ceiling or replace it

Kitchen
__Replace the sticky, dirty old Con-Tact paper from the cupboards with non-adhesive Con-Tact paper (purchased at Home Depot)

Living Room -- nothing yet!

Wood-paneled room (the 2nd living room)
__Paint the wood panels a white or off-white color
__Take out the old, sliding door and replace it with a new one
__Rip out the wood piece for hanging curtains above the sliding door

Master Bedroom

X  Install cheap, blackout blinds for a temporary fix (purchased at Home Depot)
__Choose and install new windows
__Purchase and install blinds and curtains

Master Bathroom
X  Replace the leaking faucet (purchased at Home Depot)
X  Take down the old-fashioned curtain (and offer it up on freecycle)
__Take out the shower door and fix the base with grout

Upstairs Hallway Bathroom

X  Take down the curtain rod
X  Install a new, curved shower rod  (Moen, purchased at Bed, Bath & Beyond)
__Replace the toilet paper holder and move it to the side of the toilet (instead of across from the toilet)
__Install two new 24" towel rods for shower towels and one new 18" towel rod for a hand towel

Guest Rooms

X  Put together one guest room, with the bed, headboard, two night tables, and lamps
__Put up the mirror that matches the guest room furniture set

Basement Toilet

X  Take out old toilet and vanity
X  Hire professionals to rip out the asbestos tile covering the entire basement floor
__Install tile floor (purchased at The Tile Shop)
__Install new toilet (purchased a Glacier Bay, two-flush toilet from Home Depot)

Basement

X  Hire professionals to rip out the asbestos tile covering the entire basement floor
__Hire a radon remediation company
